Gym session at Base Body Fitness

We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 1.30 - 2.30 at Base Body Fitness, a gym in the Park Hall Business Village. This is our most popular activity, with about 20 - 30 of us meeting here each week.

Most Parkinson’s People attend with their Parkinson’s Assistant or PA. It is the responsibility of the PA to help their Parkinson’s Person as needed, for example getting on or off of the various machines. However, a PA can use the machines as well, if they wish to.

The charge is £4 per session, or £5 including a hot drink for both Parkinson’s people and their PAs. Or £1 if only having a hot drink. Alternatively pay £15 per month and you can use the gym at any other time as well.

All the machines are available to use. The treadmills, recumbent bicycles and rowing machines are the most popular. Many also use the weight training machines to help build strength.

Some like to shoot a few basketball hoops. This really helps with mobility and hand-eye co-ordination because the movements are more unpredictable.

It is also possible to book one-to-one sessions with the personal trainers at the gym, or even a therapeutic massage.

Spend as long as you want on various exercises or machines, then have a sit down with a coffee or a cuppa and have a well-deserved chat. There will be biscuits and often cakes as well!

You will soon make friends with the other Parkinson’s People and their PAs.

Personal Trainers and now funded by LWWP for an hour on a Tuesday. Ask for some individual help, or join in the group activities. LWWP boxing gloves are available for use when boxing with Ben, one of the personal trainers.
